Ken equals all time Wales hooker appearance

Our own Ken Owens reached a celebrated milestone on Saturday 24th November 2018, as he equalled the most appearances for a Wales hooker. He won his 60th cap in the notable 20-11 victory over South Africa, an achievement which was shared with dynamic flanker Justin Tipuric who also celebrated 60 appearances for his country against the Springboks.

31 year old Ken currently shares the all time hooker appearance with Mathew Rees, but he will surely become the sole record holder during this current season with the Six Nations looming.

Our proud life member has had a wonderful professional career to date, overcoming concerning neck injuries which required surgery, to bouncing back to win his first cap against Namibia during the 2011 Rugby World Cup held in New Zealand. He celebrated winning the 'Grand Slam' with Wales in 2012 and the ultimate honour of selection to the Lions tour of New Zealand in 2017, in which he captained the tourists against Auckland Blues and appeared in two tests vs The All Blacks. He is also captain of his beloved region, The Scarlets for a fifth consecutive season! He is playing better than ever and the potential to gain many more caps is a real prospect. His dedication in those early years at Five Fields has certainly paid off!
