It is with great pleasure that we send our very best wishes for a Happy 80th Birthday, to Athletic legend Ryan 'Bullet' Davies today, 17th October 2023.
Ryan is a Life Member of the Club, and is the exclusive recipient of a Club cap which was presented to him in recognition of his outstanding contribution on the field. He started playing at Youth level when the section was formed in 1960 and continued to play for the 1st XV, Druids XV and Dragons XV over four remarkable decades. It is estimated that Ryan represented the Red & Blacks in around 800 games from Youth to Captaining the senior teams as follows:
1st XV 1967-68, 1969-70, 1971-72, 1972-73 and 1976-77 (shared Captaincy).
Druids XV 1978-79
Dragons XV 1985-86, 1987-88 and 1988-89.
He also represented Carmarthenshire County RU XV, Welsh Districts XV and Llanelli RFC with distinction. As an openside flanker, Ryan was the scourge of many opposing outside halves as his explosive speed and hard tackling caused sheer panic in the ranks, hence his appropriate nickname - Bullet!
When he finally hung up his boots, he served on the Athletic General Committee for many years right up to very recently.
