ATHLETIC DRUIDS 80 PANTYFFYNNON 31

Athletic welcomed close neighbours Pontyberem to Athletic Park with a much changed starting XV from the previous week. The match was played on a heavy rain sodden surface and both sides could not be faulted for their commitment. The Red & Blacks will rue the missed opportunities to score tries on at least four occasions, in contrast to the success of off loading in previous matches, too many players were guilty of 'white line fever' when a simple pass would have ensured a five point score.

Pontyberem started well & were 8 - nil up in the first twelve minutes through a penalty & a well taken try wide out. The remainder of the half belonged to the home team as constant pressure resulted in a try apiece for wingers Josh Watson and Sion Brook. Brook added a conversion & a penalty on the stroke of half time to make the score 15 - 8.

In the second period as conditions deteriorated, a resilient Pontyberem defended well and took their few chances well, making their three attempts at goal count. Crucially, their final penalty was converted just three minutes from time giving Athletic little time to respond.

The 1st XV are away to Amman United next Saturday in the first round of the WRU plate competition, with the Druids and Youth home.
